Men That Conquered the World

Their swords were born of the flesh
and armour the patience and
resilience of thousand storms;
brought knives made of fired clay
for others to fight
but they were not understood.

Their mouths spat madness and wisdom
their thoughts enemies
and their children the unity of fear and acceptance.
They dropped their swords and rested
drank from cupped hands and
washed their faces with mud.

People thought they were done
so they took their weapons and ran.
another war to win, these men, behind closed eyes
a victory unbeknown to man
tears of joy and tears of confusion.
They look weak and dry
but their eyes are flaming.

Ask a wise man what they did and he will say
they did not place a finger on the world
nor did it run from them,
the world was not worth their time,
they fought battles in their minds.
If you enter a house to burn it down
you will burn with it,
become part of the world, then
the world has conquered you.
